General Sales Manager - Jaguar Land Rover Stellenbosch

Role Objective: 

To lead and manage the sales operations of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, delivering outstanding performance across new and approved used car sales, customer experience, profitability, and team development. The General Sales Manager ensures the brand’s values and standards are upheld, while driving commercial success through strategic leadership and operational excellence.

To manage all the New & Used Car Sales for JLR in terms of: financials & profitability, new vehicle ordering & prospect & stock management, marketing, advertising & communications, new product launches, and Customer promotions events. To maximise all opportunities with new and existing Customers to ensure long term business relations are established and maintained.

Key Responsibilities: 

Sales Strategy & Performance

  • Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual targets for new and used vehicles.
  • Monitor performance KPIs (conversion rates, profitability, finance penetration, etc.) and take corrective action when needed.
  • Analyse market trends and competitor activity to inform pricing, offers, and stock management.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Leading self and the team in a way that supports our Vision and Mission.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the sales team, including Business Managers, Sales Executives, and Sales Administrators.
  • Set clear objectives, manage performance, and ensure high levels of individual and team capability.
  • Champion a coaching culture and conduct regular one-to-ones, team meetings, and performance reviews.

Customer Experience & Brand Standards

  • Ensure a seamless and premium customer journey aligned with JLR’s customer experience standards.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues professionally and in line with brand expectations.
  • Monitor CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) scores and implement initiatives for continuous improvement.

Financial Management

  • Maximise profitability across all areas of the department, including vehicle margin, add-on products, and finance.
  • Work closely with the Accountant/Finance Manager to manage budgets, forecasts, and department ROI
  • Control costs and ensure financial compliance and reporting integrity.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure full compliance with FICA regulations, data protection, health & safety, and brand requirements.
  • Oversee the proper execution of JLR operational standards and audits.

General

  • Managing the negotiation process with Sales Executives ensuring that customers understand their vehicle purchase options and pricing.
  • Appraising vehicles for trade.
  • Managing all three areas of customer traffic: Showroom, E-Commerce, and Phones.
  • Partnering with Dealer Principal to plan and manage new and used vehicle inventory.
  • Assisting in managing controllable expense elements for the New and Used Vehicle Departments.
  • Analysing the business to determine shortfalls and developing action plans to improve performance.
  • Maintaining and improving current Sales Processes
  • Determining and roll out of new sales Processes

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
  • Driver’s license
  • Tertiary qualification specifically in Management and /or Sales Management would be a distinct advantage
  • Proven experience in automotive sales management, ideally within a premium/luxury brand environment
  • Demonstrable success in achieving commercial targets and managing high-performing sales teams
  • Proven experience in customer communications, Marketing and New product launches
  • Proven experience in financial management in a Dealership environment
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle funding, finance products, and F&I compliance
  • Strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and leadership capability
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Competent in DMS/CRM systems (e.g. CDK, Keyloop, Dealerweb, Salesforce etc.)
